New Director named to the Canada Aviation Museum

Ottawa—The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation, Mr. Christopher Terry is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Anthony Smyth as the Director General of the Canada Aviation Museum.

In response to today’s announcement, Mr. Smyth stated “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to guide this internationally recognized institution, especially as it embarks upon a new construction project to house the important pieces of the collection still stored outside.“, clearly signaling his enduring enthusiasm and passion for aviation and the preservation of Canada’s aeronautical heritage.

With a distinguished career in the administration and development of programming and policy in the cultural sector, Mr. Smyth has most recently occupied the post of Deputy Secretary to the Governor General, Policy, Program and Protocol since 1990.

Mr. Smyth began his public service career in 1966 with the Department of Foreign Affairs. He holds an Honours B.A. English and History from the University of Windsor and a Master of Public Administration from Carleton University.

The Canada Aviation Museum is pleased to welcome Mr. Smyth who will take up his duties on January 14, 2002.
