The Canada Aviation Museum… A Best Bet For Canada Day, Rain or Shine

Ottawa—In its annual tradition the Canada Aviation Museum is opening its doors and grounds free with a full schedule of activities. The Museum is welcoming special aviation guests on the ground and in the air and invites everyone to spend their day off with family and friends to the perfect site to mark this special occasion! The Museum is free and offers free parking as well as a facility for all weather predictions – sun, rain or summer heat. The day’s activities include:

In the Sky *

SkyHawks Team: One of the official jump site, the entire crew from Canada’s amazing precision parachute team will perform one of their spectacular shows followed by an autograph session in the middle of the afternoon.

Visits of vintage aircraft from among others the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s living history collection that are always a crowd pleaser as these significant aircraft grace our skies only once a year. Fly-by by the Consolidated PBY 5A Canso will take place between approximately 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Midday visitors can enjoy colourful parachute jumps with the Mile High Club as well as dynamic demonstrations by the Stetson Flyers remote control aircraft organization, take every size and shape and make maneuvers that are truly impressive.

The public can take to the air themselves with sightseeing flights offered by the Rockcliffe Flying Club (Cessna 172) and/or go up in a vintage aircraft such as the de Havilland Canada Chipmunk.

* Flying activities are all weather permitting.

On the Ground

Canada’s famous Snowbirds team will be on-site by mid-afternoon to sign autographs and visit with the public.

Family Activities

Activities include crafts galore, children’s entertainment by Rutabaga the Clown and live music by the Brian Downey Band.

The Canada Aviation Museum is located at the intersection of the Aviation and Rockcliffe Parkways, just 10 minutes from Parliament Hill. The Museum will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Canada Day, but most of the special activities will end by 4 p.m. Admission and ample parking are FREE.
