About the Bands

The Centralaires Concert Band

The Centralaires Concert Band was formed as a result of two reunions of former members of the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) Central Band and the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces in 1990 and again in 1993. Retired members and present from all of these past and present bands, former RCMP Band and Governor General's Foot Guards Band members, as well as music teachers and other talented local musicians have come together to create The Centralaires. The Band is conducted by LCol Fran Chilton-Mackay and assistant conductor Peter Archibald.

The Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces

In over seventy years of service, the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces has been fulfilling its role of providing professional musical support for military and Government of Canada events and has had the distinction to perform for Royalty, Heads of State, Prime Ministers and Governors General. It has also performed many public concerts throughout Canada and around the world. Under Major Dave Shaw, the Commanding Officer and Director of Music, The Central Band continues its role as musical ambassadors of Canada representing all elements of the Canadian Armed Forces and contributing to Canadian culture both at home and abroad.

The Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces performs by kind permission of the Commandant of Canadian Forces Support Unit Ottawa.

The Governor General Foot Guard Band

The Band is an authorized Canadian Forces 35 piece Brass and Reed Band. It is made up of serving members of the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve who parade on a part-time basis. It is augmented by Associate members who formerly served in the Regiment. The Band, currently conducted by Lcol Fran Chilton-McKay, performs at a variety of military and community events throughout the National Capital Region and has toured throughout Canada and the world. The Band was authorized on formation in 1872 with many of the members coming from the Band of the Ottawa Brigade of Garrison Artillery. Under the baton of the first Director of Music, John C. Bonner the Band's first performance was 15 June 1872.
