Connexions

Stay Tuned, Er...Plugged In

Advances in digital networks and computing might some day transform television into a universal two-way medium, like the telephone. Already telegraphy has been reborn in a more accessible form: electronic mail. By employing digital compression technologies, it is possible to transmit video images through the telephone system or the Internet. In the Interconnexions area of Connexions, we explore some of the services now available. The formerly separate worlds of telegraphy, telephony, wireless communication and broadcasting are merging into a digital, multimedia universe.
