Canadian researchers have created the world's first biomimetic cornea. In the laboratory of Dr. May Griffith of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI), researchers moulded recombinant human collagen into the shape and consistency of natural corneas. These were then transplanted into patients at the Linköping University Hospital in Sweden.
Historic artifacts are also on exhibit, such as a display of the steps to fabricate artificial glass eyes from circa 1920s.
