Astronomy for everyone at the Canada Science and Technology Museum

Did you know that 2009 is International Year of Astronomy? The universe is yours to discover, so make it a family outing to the Canada Science and Technology Museum. This weekend, enjoy hands-on activities throughout the Museum. Explore the night sky in the inflatable planetarium, safely observe the Sun, and visit the Helen Sawyer Hogg Observatory. On Friday July 17, join the Museum at 9 p.m. for a free star party and get an up-close look at the wonders of the night sky.

Highlights:

  • The Science of the Skies: Learn about some of the amazing phenomena in the sky and make a meteorite crater or a hissing comet nucleus.
  • Solar Observing: Have an up-close look at the 15-inch refracting telescope in the Helen Sawyer Hogg Observatory. Safely observe the activity taking place on the surface of the Sun when you look through a solar telescope.
  • Planetarium Presentations: Explore the wonders of the night sky – without waiting until dark – in the Museum’s inflatable Starlab Planetarium.

When: Saturday July 18 - Sunday July 19 2009
