New Brunswick classroom wins Grand Prize in the Healthy Kids Quest Photo Contest

OTTAWA, March 14, 2018—The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, one of three museums under Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation, is excited to announce that the winner of the Healthy Kids Quest Contest is a Grade 2 class from École La Source in Tracadie-Sheila, New Brunswick! Ms. Kathy Sonier, along with her class of 18 students, are winners of the Grand Prize of $3,000.

The prize helps support teachers in purchasing classroom supplies, gym equipment, or to fund programs that promote healthy living, such as student workshops and guest speakers. The first 20 submissions to the contest also received $100 for their classrooms.

The Healthy Kids Quest Photo Contest asked teachers across Canada to share a fun and creative photo of their class participating in an activity from one of the Healthy Kids Quest educational programs. Meeting cross-curricular requirements for Grades 1 to 3, the program encourages and empowers students to make healthy lifestyle choices.

About the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum

The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, one of the three museums under Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation, is located at Ottawa’s Central Experimental Farm, which traces its roots to 1886 and is the world’s only working farm in the heart of a capital city. The museum offers programs and exhibitions on Canada’s agricultural heritage, food literacy, and on the benefits and relationship of agricultural science and technology to Canadians’ everyday lives. It provides visitors with a unique opportunity to see diverse breeds of farm animals important to Canadian agriculture past and present, and to learn about the food they eat. In addition to breeds common to Canadian agriculture, such as Holstein dairy cows and Angus beef cows, the museum also has Canadienne dairy cows, Tamworth pigs, and Clydesdale horses. Many other breeds of dairy and beef cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, poultry, goats, and rabbits round out the collection.
