Holiday Programming – Winter Frolic

Please note: The Museum will be open on Tuesday, December 26 as well as Monday, January 1 and Tuesday, January 2 during Holiday Programming.

Join us at the Museum this holiday season for a fun exploration of vintage toys and classic games. Try your hand at some old fashioned games, some classic ones and admire and play with some toys from the past. Visitors can enjoy our gingerbread house village which will be on display for viewing and judging. For some tasty treats, join us in our demonstration kitchen. From crispy Italian cookies to traditional bread pudding, our holiday desserts will take you on a delicious culinary journey around the world. Don’t forget to stop by our craft corner and try some easy origami and other various paper crafts. Visit the animals in the barns and check out the other demonstrations being offered!


Cookie Day – Special Activity – December 30th ONLY

Join us to help bake cookies all day long to donate to the Ottawa Mission to celebrate the New Year. Visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for donation as well.

Vintage Toys and Classic Games (ongoing)

Feeling nostalgic? Do you have a favourite childhood toy? Kids and adults alike are invited to admire the many vintage toys on display and get a chance to play with some classic games. Get ready to have some fun as visitors discover and rediscover traditional toys played around the world!

Gingerbread House Village (ongoing)

Making gingerbread houses has become a popular holiday tradition for many families. Visit our gingerbread house village display and vote for your favourite amongst the participating families. Learn about the history of the gingerbread house along the way.

Origami (ongoing)

Origami is the ancient Japanese art of folding paper. Join us to learn a few simple origami techniques. From paper snowflakes to paper cranes, kids and adults alike are invited to participate in creating beautiful origami crafts. Children will also delight in reading our selection of winter themed books.

Madeleine Cookies (9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.)

Madeleines are French tea cookies with a distinct shell-like shape. These cookies became very popular in France in the mid-20th century. Join us in the demonstration kitchen and learn how to bake these delicious classic holiday cookies.

English Bread Pudding (10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.)

This is our take on the classic English Bread Pudding. Discover the ingredients used to make this delicious dessert and learn about its history which can be traced back to the early 11th and 12th centuries. 

Italian Pizzelle Tasting (11:30 p.m.)

Take a trip to Italy in our demonstration kitchen where you will find our staff making pizzelles – a traditional Italian waffle cookie served during the holidays. Come and sample this delectable treat.
