Algonquin College students to learn with Learjet at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum

OTTAWA, September 25, 2014 – The strong partnership between the Canada Aviation and Space Museum (CASM) and Algonquin College’s Aviation Techniques – Aircraft Maintenance program is yielding new benefits for both institutions with the arrival today of a new Learjet 35 at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.

The new Learjet 35 will be used by Algonquin College Aircraft Maintenance students over the course of their training. Students of the program already undergo part of their training at the CASM, where they can get hands-on experience on some of the Museum’s aircraft. This additional aircraft will broaden the scope of their learning experience at CASM.

The Learjet 35, which has reached the end of its service life, has been donated by Skyservice Air Ambulance, of Dorval, QC., thanks to the initiative of Algonquin College Professor Bruce Dwyer.

“We are very thankful to Skyservice Air Ambulance for their generous donation of this Learjet 35,” said Chris Janzen, Dean, Faculty of Technology and Trades at Algonquin College. “It will be an invaluable learning asset for our students.”

“We wish to offer our special thanks to Skyservice Air Ambulance for their generous gift,” said CASM Director General Stephen Quick, “but also to Mr Dwyer, who identified this opportunity and pursued it relentlessly until it came to fruition. We are very proud of our fruitful partnership with Algonquin College that complements our mandate and illustrates our interest in leveraging our assets to build new and innovative alliances with aviation and aerospace stakeholders.”
