Mauril Bélanger to be honoured at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum
OTTAWA, Monday, May 29, 2017 — The theatre at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum will be named the “Mauril Bélanger Theatre” in recognition of the late Honourable Mauril Bélanger, P.C., M.P., at a ceremony and reception on Monday, May 29. Throughout his career, Mr. Bélanger expressed great support for the Museum and its mandate. He appreciated and understood the heritage and educational value to Canadians of the Museum’s exceptional collection of aeronautical artifacts. During the reception, not only will Mr. Bélanger’s support for the Canada Aviation and Space Museum be highlighted; his and his family’s commitment towards funding research for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) through the Mauril Bélanger Community Fund, will also be recognized and celebrated.
Media are invited to attend the event to begin at 5:30 p.m.
“I am grateful to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum for recognizing Mauril’s contribution to the Museum. He has been one of the Museum’s biggest fans and an ardent supporter of its staff, vision, and raison d'être.”
– Catherine Bélanger — wife of Mauril Bélanger
“The plaque we are unveiling, and the renaming of this theatre, will be tangible and lasting affirmations of Mauril’s efforts and successes in his role as a staunch supporter of the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, for the benefit of all Canadians.”
