Learn more about nuclear science with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and the Canada Science and Technology Museum
OTTAWA, December 4, 2014 – The Canada Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) has teamed up with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) to produce a series of videos to highlight the vast Canadian contribution to the development of nuclear science.
What is nuclear fission, and why is it important? When was it discovered, and what is it used for today? How is uranium used in a nuclear reactor to produce energy? How much uranium would it take to power your house for an entire year? The videos answer these and many more questions about nuclear science for the benefit of students, teachers, and Canadians in general.
The videos also explore the fascinating work done by Canadian pioneers of nuclear science, such as George C. Laurence and Harriet Brooks Pitcher.
CNL welcomed members of the CSTM’s Education staff at their facilities, where they observed how contemporary nuclear facilities are used, and interviewed the CNL’s highly-skilled professionals to find answers to questions Canadians may have about nuclear science.

We believe that these videos not only showcase home grown Canadian scientific expertise, but it provides a great learning tool for anyone wanting to learn more about these subjects” says Dr Darren Radford, Program Lead Nuclear Innovation Networks for CNL.
“Our Education staff has been producing many high-quality short videos that briefly and brilliantly explain a wide range of scientific processes and principles in a way that can easily be grasped by all Canadians,” said CSTM Director General Christina Tessier. “We are very happy that CNL has afforded us this valuable opportunity to share their expert knowledge of nuclear science with the Canadian public at large.”
