Calling all makers: Ottawa Mini Maker Faire 2013

OTTAWA, April 8 2013 – Artengine and the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation (CSTMC) are calling upon all the best and brightest “makers” in the National Capital Region and beyond to submit their proposals to take part in the 2013 Ottawa Mini Maker Faire (OMMF)

If you love the DIY culture, if you write up programs that announce "hello world", if you’ve found an original use of more conventional techniques, if you solder your own robot's circuits, sew in programmable lights into your favourite jackets or 3D print in your basement at night, you may be a maker, and this event is made just for you.

Be part of an emerging world movement which is rapidly spreading in our age of globalized innovation. The 2013 OMMF wants to bring together creative-thinking makers from Ottawa, Gatineau and other areas of Canada and the United States to showcase their talents, and put the local maker community on the map of the makersphere.

"As the host of the first Mini Maker Faire in Canada in 2010, Artengine is thrilled to partner with the CSTMC for the third Ottawa Mini Maker Faire", says Rupert Allan, Chair of Artengine's Board of Directors. "This partnership will enable significantly more people to engage with the growing world-wide maker movement."

"Artengine partnering with our museums is a natural extension of our community engagement activities", states CSTMC CEO Denise Amyot. "Celebrating the best of human imagination, ingenuity and creativity is one of the CSTMC’s fundamental goals and we believe the maker movement helps to spark the next generation of Canadian innovators."
