Faster, higher, stronger; Sciences at the Games at the Canada Science and Technology Museum

OTTAWA August 8, 2012 – In addition to marveling at the performances of athletes from all around the world, the Games of the XXXth Olympiad in London this Summer also provide a unique occasion to illustrate many scientific concepts which constitute the fundamental basics of a number of sports.

As in much of the world, Olympic fever will reach the Canada Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) from August 8 to 10. The science of sport will be front and centre: do you realize how often the lever effect is involved in sporting activities? Why is it so difficult to catch a moving ball? Demonstrations of all kinds will help understand to what extent scientific concepts are at play in almost every facet of sports.

Come discover if you have what it takes to be a gymnast with the pros from Starr gymnastics. Come and meet sledge hockey 2006 Paralympic Games gold medalist Jean Labonté. Test your knowledge of the Olympic Games by taking part in a trivia quiz. Come and show that, as modern Olympic Games founder Pierre de Coubertin believed, "the most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning, but taking part."
